Suburban Horror Interview w/ Seth Trotter
The Higher Interview
Suburban Horror: How was it working with producer Beau Burchell? Was that fucking awesome or what?
Seth: Of course it was. Saosin is really good. The same time we were recording our EP, they were recording theirs. It was really rad because he’ a really good guitarist and an awesome producer. He was able to help us and direct us. It was awesome.
SH: How was the transition of being produced by Beau on your EP to being produced with Rory Phillips on “Histrionics”?
S: Well here’s a big difference for example: Beau was really good at engineering and production work, as far as making it sound really good. Rory was a lot more hands on with the songs; creating structure and exploring where the song could go. Rory was a little more open with trying different things, and letting us be more creative with our music. When we were with Beau we were paying him out of our pocket. It was an hourly thing.
SH: What are some of your favorite cities to tour in?
S: Seattle, Atlanta, and California. We like all of California. We Love San Diego.
SH: Well, how is that different from your home town Vegas?
S: Very different. It doesn’t have a beach!
SH: That’s true. So you guys like Seattle? I didn’t like Seattle that much.
S: Yeah we liked touring there.
SH: Have you guys been to New York yet?
S: I liked New York as well.
Patrick: I didn’t like New York.
Tom: According to Panda Express health and happiness are coming my way.
S: HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!!!
SH: Are you guys still talking to your previous guitarist?
S: That’s the 3rd time someone has asked me that question today...
SH: Sorry. I know that in your bio it says that he wanted to out so he could "lead a normal life" I was just wondering if maybe that was sugar-coating it. Was it because of creative differences?
S: We don’t hate each other. We don’t talk as much.He found a girl. He didn’t want to go on tour and leave her. He's tired of playing with himself.
SH: Are you guys currently working on anything for your new album?
S: Yeah. We're actually going to play a couple of the new songs for you guys tonight.
SH: Fucking rad! Alright now, I heard a rumor from someone who hung out with you guys last time. They told me you guys were planning on quitting and going back to your normal lives. But then you realized how many people love you so you decided to stay on tour something along those lines.
S: FALSE INFORMATION! We were kind of stuck in hiatus when our guitarist left the band. But there was no stopping the band. We instantly started looking for someone else, and we found Reggie. So that's completely false.
